Huge, pristine white rooms overlooking the pool, bayside restaurant on the deck which leads to Koh Kong Bay. Oversized beds with dreamy comforters. And friendly, attentive service that leaves no detail in question? Where are we? Majorca? The Italian coast? French? Nope. Southwest Cambodia, and the Koh Kong Bay Hotel, where host Diego Wilkins and his staff have created an oasis of tranquility and high quality. Nothing is left in question, from making sure we had two motorbike helmets , escorting masseuses to our room for a couples massage and seeing to the prompt return of a forgotten passport (no mean feat, from Koh Kong to Phnom Penh). Diego is teaching the Koh Kong Bay staff that guests are to be treated like family, and it creates the kind of quiet ambiance that you'll find in a five star property but without the stuffiness or formality. Special tip: have a tall gin and tonic on the patio to watch the sun set, then stick around for dinner from the wonderful kitchen staff. Seafood, burgers and bar snacks were all delicious. Without question it's one of the most memorable stays in our 18 months traveling throughout SE Asia.
